Is there any other way; but to work together and cooperate ?
The only alternative to working together is working against. When someone is working against you it is not always obvious. Things take a little longer to get done. But you’re not sure why… Learning how to cooperate properly at your workplace is important.
People forget to do things. More often than not, lack of cooperation shows up through lethargy; through not being bothered. Along with through lack of interest. Others will not put themselves out for you.
People don’t cooperate because they’re not with you
More than likely they’re not with you because they don’t think you’re with them. “Why should I bother with him? He doesn’t bother with me except when he wants something.”
The boss seeks cooperation and gets it. He gets it because he’s with his people; not just in the task that has to be performed today. But in pursuing their interests, supporting them; putting himself out for them. The Boss co-operates with his people in helping resolve their problems; and in return they cooperate with him. It’s a two-way process; each side putting itself out for the other. You can’t expect people to cooperate with you if you don’t cooperate with them.
The Boss therefore always sets the example
They take the initiative in cooperating. He doesn’t wait until he wants something and then ask for cooperation. In cooperating the Boss will always show willingness; he’ll never throw up excuses and pretend it’s all too difficult. He’ll go out of his way to cooperate; to help the other person with whatever he or she wants.
Make a list of the twenty people with whom you have to work most closely. Then rank them in order of cooperativeness. Forget the top ten, they’re not a problem. Now look critically at the ten who are least cooperative and ask yourself why. If your answers are all to do with them, take another look at the lower list and ask your self; “Is their lack of cooperativeness. Perhaps because they don’t think I cooperate with them?” Be ruthlessly self-critical; you might learn a lot and help your self, and them.
